What’s the latest and greatest in wedding photography? I’ve done a little digging, and here’s what I found out from photographers across the country.

#1 – Formal shots are done pre-ceremony. More and more couples are choosing to take all of their formal portraits before the wedding ceremony, and there are several advantages to doing this: It’s early yet in your busy day, so everyone still looks and feels fresh. This schedule lets everyone get to the reception quicker, and you can avoid that awkward gap between ceremony and reception for your guests. Of course, this also means that the bride and groom will see each other before the ceremony, which doesn’t feel right to some couples. Do whatever feels right to you two, but also – go on to #2 for another new idea to consider.

#2 – Private time before the ceremony. For couples choosing to take their formal portraits before the ceremony, here’s a great idea. Schedule some private time for you and your groom to meet before the ceremony, with only your photographer present (quietly and unobtrusively taking photos.) The photographer can capture your expressions as you see each other for the first time in full bridal attire, the light in your eyes, the smiles on your faces. Then, after the photographer leaves, take five or 10 minutes to spend alone together, savoring the emotions of the day. It will probably be your ONLY alone time all day!

#3 – More engagement portraits. Many photographers reported an increase in the number of couples getting engagement photos. There are many good uses for a beautiful engagement photo: use it on your invites, in your ceremony program, as your guest book (with a large white mat around the photo where guests can sign) or simply framed and displayed at your reception next to a traditional guest book.

#4 – The “Artistic Style.” There’s the traditional portrait style (think bride with bridesmaids, groom with groomsmen and so on, usually in color), and at the other end of the spectrum is the photojournalistic style (completelycandid, lots of black & white.) Somewhere between these two is an emerging trend loosely called “Artistic” – think 'high end fashion magazine spread.' It’s a posed photo, but with a fresh, new, creative approach.

#5 – “Magazine-style” printed albums. With digital photography and computer programs like Photoshop more widely used now by photographers, wedding albums are taking on a whole new look. While the traditional wedding album with photos inserted into mats is still quite popular, classic and long-lasting, some couples are choosing a new style of album that has one full printed page, designed like a magazine spread. One cautionary note: some photographers are great at photography but not at design! So take agood look at their album samples and evaluate their design skills, along with their photography skills. You don’t want your album to be ‘over-designed’ – it can be tempting to throw every design and layout technique into it.

More than anything, go with your instinct! You know what you like and don’t like when you see it, so find a photographer whose work moves you and inspires you. Also consider their personality as well, since you will be spending a good deal of time with this person on your special day.

Things to remember when planning your Wedding in Tampa

Confirm and follow-up. Make sure as the date gets closer, about 2 months before, that you follow-up with your service providers such as the band, limos, photographer, florist, and Videographer to confirm your arrangements, provide any last minute instructions, and reiterate timing of all activities. It will make you feel secure and will insure that they understand your expectations.

Relax and enjoy! It is a fun, happy, beautiful time. Do not let the planning process mask that for you. Take moments to step back and enjoy what is happening. Especially the day of your wedding, just enjoy it. At that point, you have done all you can and it is in the hands of the trustworthy people you have hired.
