Excercise Adherence and the Women of Curves!

Research has shown that on average, fifty-percent of those that begin an exercise program will discontinue their training within a six-month time frame. Does this sound familiar? However justified your reasons behind beginning and stopping training, there are certain techniques you can adhere to in order to successfully continue and enjoy exercise:
1) Find your niche. A common excuse made by woman today pertaining to their lack of a structured exercise routine is the lack of a work out facility where they are comfortable. Of course, it is easy to tell yourself everyday you will walk for a certain amount of time, do an at-home exercise tape before bed, etc. yet, how often does this truly happen? Adhering to exercise is destined to fail if not only what you are doing for a workout is not enjoyed, but first and foremost, where you are exercising is not a comfortable or a convenient setting. Curves is one training facility where woman come to the same location on a regular basis; preferably at a location most conducive to their schedule, get familiar with the exercises performed, and really gain that consistency and structure that so many exercise programs of today lack, resulting in non-compliance.
2) Establish your goals. Whether you are beginning an exercise routine for the first time, getting back into the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle, or workout regularly on a weekly basis, it is imperative that you always have reasonable goals in mind to strive for. In so doing, you will never forget why you are committing yourself to this program, even during those times when it seems so much easier to head straight to the couch after a long day. It is important to remember that even if your ultimate goal is to shed a large amount of pounds and inches, don’t solely focus on that long term goal. Conversely, each week set small goals for yourself, be it, exercise 3x this week, begin making adjustments to your menu that will benefit your efforts of a workout, etc. As a Curves member, a trainer will work with you one on one to make sure you are not only establishing reasonable goals, but aids in your accomplishment of them as well.
3) Keep it fun. The start of an exercise program can be an exciting time whether you believe it or not. Your decision to begin a healthy lifestyle may be a new endeavor for you and the idea of helping your body and mind through exercise is actually a therapeutic and invigorating process. However, complications begin to present themselves when this new found notion of health and wellness, is no longer new, nor exciting. It is overwhelming important that you find a way in which you keep your program new and interesting. Let’s admit it, it is not always the easiest thing to just be able to reassure yourself with mental reminders that exercise is good for you. Treat your workout as a form of entertainment, social outing or time solely designated to you. You will notice it is less of a chore, and more of an excuse to put the rest of our busy lives on hold and commit ourselves to an activity that is beneficial to our mind, body and ultimate happiness. Curves facilities exemplify the definition of fun for women across America . This form of exercise is always allowing for room to enhance and mature your exercise program through instruction and guidance, while at the same time providing a great source of social support!
These points are just a few of many representing ways to adhere to your chosen exercise program. No matter which path you choose to embark upon, be sure to remind yourself you are doing this for you. The first step to health and a high quality lifestyle is commitment. Once exercise is made a natural part of your life, you will not be able to live without it! Keep these concepts in mind when bettering your health, well-being and happiness. Good luck with achieving your goals, and come see your potential work-out friends at your local Curves!
